During company change, termination interviews become part of management and HR tasks. How the separation interviews are conducted and how the remaining employees are treated demonstrates the corporate and leadership culture and reflects the professionalism and social responsibility of management. Although, decidedly one of their core tasks, managers don’t favour termination interviews. To be the bearer of bad news and, without the appropriate preparation, respond appropriately to negative emotions from the dismissed person can be more than unpleasant for all parties involved. How to conduct this difficult conversation professionally and fairly is taught in the VBLP separation workshop for managers and HR representatives. Both parties are involved in this process, but ideally, it is the line manager who responsibly and frankly conducts the decisive discussion.
